For over 30 years, six days a week, The Open Door at Square One continues to be a front-line ministry outreach of the churches of Mississauga, making every effort to minister to people's practical, spiritual and emotional needs. We are ministering to people facing homelessness, critical illness, raising families as single moms and countless other reasons that people need help, including every sort of relational hurt.

The Open Door as always needs your prayer and financial support. In many instances, people are praying for help and you are a part of God's answer. In other instances, people may not know Him yet and you become an expression of God's love and compassion for them. Every time someone comes into The Open Door, it gives them an opportunity to hear the Gospel. We have many wonderful stories to tell.

Financial: We are very much in need of your financial support as we do not receive any grants and are run entirely by donation. We are a registered charitable organization and can issue income tax receipts.

*A fundraiser for The Open Door would be helpful*

We need some men who would be part of a roster of people we can call on from time to time for some of the following tasks, most of which only require a car. If anyone has or has access to a small van or truck we could really use your help for some of the larger items.

  • Deliver food on occasion to the sick and shut-ins
  • Pick up donations of food and leftovers and bring to The Open Door
  • Pick up and deliver donations of furniture to people in need
  • Help with Christmas deliveries
  • Do a food drive for The Open Door

Here are some other suggestions:

  • Prayer for the Open Door and staff and people we minister to.
  • We are run entirely by donation, no grants, and we need your support.
  • Certificates for grocery stores, i.e. Loblaws, A&P, etc. This helps people to buy
milk, margarine, fresh fruit, baby formula, etc.
  • Walmart gift certificates for diapers, baby formula, Christmas presents, etc.
  • Diapers, especially size 5, baby formula (Good Start with Iron is versatile) and baby wipes.
  • Bus tickets are a big need.
  • Toiletries, ie. bubble bath for comforting, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.
  • Tim Hortons gift certificates to help people to get out of the cold (open 24 hours).
  • Blankets.
  • Backpacks filled with school supplies, i.e. pens, lined looseleaf paper, markers,
    coloured pencils, notebooks, etc.
  • Homemade soups, stew, chili, sandwiches, pasta and sauce, etc. for people in need
as we unofficially serve food during the day to the poor who come to us. Especially important in the winter months. Every Wednesday is a free lunch with Bible stories,
but we have hungry people every day.
  • Help provide some of the giftbags for our free Christmas dinner. We have lists of suggested contents for the bag. Every man, woman and child who attends receives
a gift. Last year we had over 250 people at the dinner and we took care of over 100 families in their homes.
  • Volunteers to help sort clothing in the clothing storage room.
  • Volunteers to pick up food or to deliver food to people who cannot come in to get it.
  • Provide and serve a dinner on a Thursday night at The Open Door.
  • 8 ½ x 11 photocopy paper, hand sanitizer, large garbage bags
  • There are many more ways to participate and help at The Open Door. These are just a few suggestions. You are most welcome to come in to The Open Door for a visit.

Lynne Culham and Krista Fakaua will be pleased to meet with you.

God bless you as YOU make a difference!
